Do you love Mystery Science Theater 3000? Do you love watching cheesy B-movies while you get to talk back and say crazy things to the actors? Then you are going to love Wild Women Of Planet Wongo, the immersive sci-fi musical spoof. Wongo is making its way to the Chopin Theater in Chicago for a summer 2018 run after a long success in New York City.
The New York Theatre Review said “Wild Women of Planet Wongo is offering nightly rides to planet fun. A retro-futuristic immersive musical, this delightful romp wields zany charm and a healthy dose of good old-fashioned escapism.”
Wongo has the snarkiness and cheese fest feel of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (one of composer Dave Ogrin’s all time favorite shows). Who needs Tom Servo, Crow or Gypsy when you have the Queen of Wongo?
To quote The Work Print “The show is reminiscent of sci-fi films from the 1950’s and 60’s it felt like being in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Once you enter the lounge you can grab a signature Wongotini at the bar and then commence in audience participation throughout the performance. During the first intermission three attendees were able to become apprentice Wongettes and practice some of the warrior womens’ signature moves on an unconscious and chained up Louie. In the second one, we were treated to a hilarious Wongo version of the dating game. Audiences also got to join in on the fun throughout the night by dancing, singing, bowing, and even picketing. The cast did a splendid job in working with the space and engaging with the theatergoers.”
Wild Women Of Planet Wongo opens June 8 at the Chopin Theatre in Chicago. Get your inner sci-fi geek on and come party with aliens. Tickets at www.planetwongo.com.
